Before
Someone would need to open the RSS feed, review articles individually, determine which items were published recently, and copy the relevant titles, descriptions, and links. They would then format the content into an email and send the update to the intended recipient.
How it works
- The daily schedule retrieves the configured RSS feeds and converts their content into structured article data.
- The workflow checks each article's publication date and keeps only items newer than the one-day cutoff.
- It generates a formatted HTML briefing with an AI step and sends it by email with the configured subject and recipient.
Workflow details
- Scheduled monitoring: A daily scheduled run retrieves content from the configured RSS feed list, which currently includes the New York Times Technology feed.
- Content processing: Each feed's XML content is converted into structured article data, then the workflow reviews individual articles and compares their publication dates with a one-day cutoff.
- New-article collection: Articles published within the previous 24 hours are collected with their titles, descriptions, and links so that only recent content is included in the briefing.
- Briefing generation: An AI step creates a professional HTML email with a "Latest News Updates" header, clickable article titles, and short descriptions.
- Email delivery: The generated briefing is sent with the subject "Latest News Updates" to the configured email recipient, providing a consolidated update at the end of the scheduled run.
What changed
Recent feed content is now collected and filtered automatically during the scheduled run. The email structure and article presentation are generated automatically, so the recipient receives a consolidated briefing without a manual review-and-send handoff.
Work removed
Opening RSS feeds, reviewing articles one by one, checking publication dates against a recent-content cutoff, copying article titles, descriptions, and links, formatting the email, and manually sending the news notification.
Expected outcome
A conservative expectation is that roughly six recurring manual actions per scheduled run are replaced by automation, while recent feed updates are consistently assembled into an email briefing.
