Before
Security or cloud teams likely had to review exposed-bucket findings, gather the related resource and remediation details, and create tracking issues manually. They also had to notify a team, decide whether to remediate, apply the S3 access-control change, and update the issue record across multiple steps.
How it works
- Retrieve and iterate through high- and critical-severity cloud configuration findings, including additional pages of results.
- Create an issue, notify the responsible team, and attach remediation context before evaluating the finding.
- Apply the S3 public-access block when remediation is selected, then record the resulting action or ignore path in the issue.
Workflow details
- Finding discovery: An email-triggered run retrieves cloud configuration findings from the security platform, including high- and critical-severity results and their associated resources, rules, severity, remediation guidance, and project context.
- Finding processing: The workflow iterates through the returned findings and accounts for additional result pages so that the available finding set can be processed rather than stopping at the first page.
- Operational handoff: For each finding, the automation creates an issue for tracking, sends a message to a team channel, and adds remediation guidance or contextual comments to the issue record.
- Remediation decision: A condition determines whether the finding should be remediated or ignored. When remediation is selected, the workflow updates the S3 public-access-block configuration to restrict public access.
- Closure documentation: After the configuration change or the ignore path, the workflow adds a final comment to the issue, providing a documented handoff and status record for follow-up.
What changed
Findings now move automatically from discovery to issue creation, team notification, remediation decision, and documentation. The public-access configuration change is performed by the workflow when the remediation branch is selected, while the resulting issue record preserves the operational handoff.
Work removed
Reviewing qualifying findings one by one, copying resource and remediation details into issues, notifying a team channel, applying the S3 public-access-block change, and adding status or remediation comments to the issue.
Expected outcome
An estimated four or more recurring manual actions per qualifying finding are consolidated into one workflow, with findings tracked, communicated, and remediated through a consistent process.
